Funeral Home Employees Saving Lives

08 Jan 2012
charity, community, helping, outreach
by Cathy Nichols

One of Kent’s “bucket list” items was to participate in a climb of Terminal Tower in Cleveland, OH. Forty-two flights, 804 steps total. So when he saw the entry forms for the “American Lung Association Fight for Air Climb” he signed up and even got a co-worker to commit to the climb with him.

Why?

In his work as an embalmer at Busch Funeral Homes he sees the results of lung disease and he tries to keep healthy himself. Due to the fact that his mother also suffers from COPD and emphysema it became a personal goal for Kent to not only raise money for the cause but also awareness.
He was able to complete the climb in 11 minutes thanks in part to the adrenaline- pumping music and other participants cheering each other on. Smiling, sweating, scoffing, there were many images of friends challenging him to finish that helped him make it to the top! He was exhilarated by the experience and hopes to do it again and recommends the challenge to anyone who wants to make a difference. “You can climb at your own pace, or just commit to raise money for a great organization”. Look for him at the next “Climb”!
